Our story…

Young and vibrant, the Invictus Quartet has been praised for their luminous and blended sound since their formation in 2017. Based in Melbourne, Australia, the quartet is made up of four friends who share a love for music, travel, and food. Together, they have performed all around the world, bringing music to global audiences as emerging artists through a variety of competitions, festivals, and performances. The Invictus Quartet was formed during the members’ studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where they worked together under the guidance of the Ormond Quartet, resident quartet of the conservatorium. They are currently mentored by esteemed violinist and educator, William Hennessy AM. 

In 2017, the quartet was selected to participate in the Australian Festival of Chamber Music as guest emerging artists where they were tutored by some of the world’s leading musicians including members of the Goldner Quartet and Czech cellist, Jiří Bárta. They performed as part of the Mimir Chamber Music Festival held in Melbourne and received the Audience Prize for their performance on the 3MBS Fine Music Radio Station as part of ‘The Talent Series’.  The quartet also came first place in the Chamber Music Competition of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and were invited to perform at Parliament House in Canberra, Australia for an official ceremony of the Australian Government in celebration of the recipients of the New Colombo Plan.

2018 took Invictus outside of Australia, marking the beginning of their travels across the globe. In February, they represented Australia as one of eight string quartets chosen worldwide at the 13th International Mozart Competition held in Salzburg, Austria. They travelled to Fort Worth, Texas to participate in the Mimir Chamber Music Festival as emerging artists and performed at the Australian High Commissioner’s residence in Singapore during the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Tour in Asia.

At the beginning of 2019, the quartet presented a sold out show as part of Southside Sundays at Classic Cinemas and appeared as guest artists with the Australian New Goldberg Orchestra and Old Scotch Symphony Orchestra. They regularly appear in music festivals including the Four Seasons Fine Music Festival and Warrnambool Organ Festival. Most recently, the group presented a highly successful performance at the 2020 Brunswick Beethoven Festival.

Invictus Quartet enjoys regularly collaborating with songwriters, film directors, and contemporary artists. Most notably, they joined the stage with Melbourne artist Billy Davis during his residency at The Curtin in Melbourne and again at Government House for the Youth Leaders Reception with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, during their Australian Royal Tour in 2018. Invictus is frequently sought after to record for various artists. Invictus Quartet are passionate about making all music genres relevant and accessible and are constantly searching for innovative ways to bring the worlds of classical and contemporary together. Since December 2020, Invictus have been performing regularly in Fever’s Candlelight Concerts, presenting diverse shows ranging from Tchaikovsky Ballets to Anime Soundtracks.

In recent years, Invictus have most notably collaborated with Melbourne producer/artist Billy Davis during his August residency at The Curtin in Melbourne 2018 and again at the Square Up event at The Forum 2021. Invictus have also performed at The Melbourne Recital Centre in collaboration with different singer/songwriters Nir Tsfaty and Emily Soon.

When they are not on stage or in the rehearsal room, IQ love to film original music covers and create content to engage with their online audience. Last but not least they also love to discover and eat all the best food and desserts they can find. They are excited to be exploring and presenting challenging works that can move and inspire audiences of all ages.
